and finally, “Chop Shop” would be one of Bahrani’s finer films.
Chop Shop’s story feels so much more personal to me. And we are dealing with a kid here as the main character, and it’s shocking to 1) see this kid acting like an adult in the film because of his circumstances and 2) actually have a kid actor this good. There are moments where the kid in him stands out, and it’s inevitably things that no kid could not do, but it’s quite interesting to see this character forced to be an adult because there is no other choice for him. Like Goodbye Solo, I love the ending, and I think the last few shots are very powerful.
