Why did you choose going to film school in Massachusetts over California? Or New York?
This is such a tough question, I just wrote out like 6 paragraphs but decided to delete it and give you the simple version.
1. I love Boston, I’ve lived 20 min away my whole life. I love this city and I know it pretty well. I also love filming in natural light and outdoors too, so the knowledge of where to go helps.
2. I’m not a traditional filmmaker (though there are very traditional aspects in my work), thus, massart is a great place to push the boundaries, see what works and what doesn’t. We aren’t at the forefront in terms of camera equipment, but as I’m learning in film (and I’m talking only about film film), if you can operate a 16mm camera, you have to have all the knowledge required to shoot on 35 (except some tiny details).
3. MassArt is really cheap if you reside in MA. Then if i decide to get my masters (which i plan on getting with a concentration in cinematography), I can then go to a very established film school, like AFI or CalArts.
Feel free to ask any other questions, I made so many mistakes in looking for and choosing film schools, and I enjoy making sure others don’t.
